While pondering what cute message I could blog or tweet I thought about a news story I recently heard on the radio. The announcer posed the question of whether or not God is concerned about who wins this weekend’s big game. There was a lot of friendly banter back and forth, the majority believing that surely He has more important things to do. I laughed to myself and thought of posting, “God must be rooting for the Saints” until I realized that it’s the Ravens and 49ers that are playing. I therefore decided to stick with what I know.
Today is Super Bowl Sunday, a day where two teams come together with the hopes of walking away with a shiny, metal symbol of achievement, of having finally accomplished what they’ve worked so hard for. Some have even dreamed of this day their whole lives. There will be celebrating. There will be eating. There will be pictures taken to capture the momentous occasion…kind of like a wedding.
Last year this time I was pouring over cookbooks and searching websites for recipes. I so wanted to prepare the perfect spread for my most valuable player. Festive perhaps to a fault, I even bought the perfect outfit to wear– a casual yet cute pair of sweats and matching top with the name of our hometeam emblazoned across my chest. On my sleeve I wore my heart.
We are no longer a team, but I did learn some valuable lessons.
#1) I was so into the hot entrees and half time entertainment that I didn’t have my head in the game. I should have joined the huddle and listened to the plays.
#2) Touchdowns are great, but sometimes it’s good just to appreciate each yard gained.
#3) Less refereeing, more cheering.
Blessings,
